Volunteer Meeting – August 2013

Volunteer meeting 21st August

Funding – Bad news we weren’t successful in our two funding bid (National Lottery and Esme Fairburn) which would have kept the garden running as it is for the next three years.  The Wednesdays won’t stop and we’ll be trying to raise the funds to keep the garden open on Weds with a paid worker (£5000 a year)

Lucy will be doing less things and volunteers will have to step up to help with the shopping and organising, running events etc.  We may be open on reduced hours and if Saturdays continue they’ll have to volunteer led.

Fundraising ideas – We’re launching a Friend of Golden Hill Scheme where people pay £20 a year and get invited to a celebratory pizza evening once a year.  Might be starting a Green Toddlers group.  Also will be running kids activities in half term to see if we can get fully booked and make more money. The low impact shelter will now be built with a view to it being a venue we can hire out for kids parties, classes etc

The Fair – As it a combined event with the Allotment Association’s annual summer show they are running the the tea and cake tent.  We now are charging £1 for adults to come to Harvest Fair (kids still free).  We need to make the fair extra good and need lots of help on the day.  Still need more musicians and music on the day

Chutney making – 7th September 10-4 St Werburghs Community Centre.  We’ll be trying to make 100+ jars to sell at the fair.

The future – We’ll be expanding the management group and asking people to take on more responsibilities

Everyone agreed we’ve achieved so much and everyone at meeting keen to see Wednesdays keep going and do what’s necessary.
