Sunshine!!

May 22, 2012

At last the sun is here! The site, a bog earlier in the month is now dry!  The flooded polytunnel is now merely slightly soggy in one corner.  Our big task this week is starting to prep the ground for the next polytunnel.  The clock is ticking as we want it done by the end of the month so we can plant out our tomatoes and aubergines and other tender tasties.  So all and everyone is welcome along to help level the ground now it’s dried out.

As usual we’ll also have jobs for people who aren’t up for hard manual labour. The flower bed that everyone worked so hard on last week looks amazing and the slugs have stayed away. This week we’ll be finishing planting the edible flower bed.  We’ll also be getting our beans in, planting sweetcorn and oca (this is a new one on me but looks like a baby mole/potato and apparently is blight resistant and tastes like a lemony spud).  There is also lots of watering to do which just feels weird!  Three weeks ago I couldn’t believe we’d ever be putting extra water down.

Hopefully see you down there

*What’s a bag garden? – well we’re just planting a variety of veg in a variety of bags!  Come down and you’ll see…

Hello world!

May 7, 2012

Hi there

I’m Lucy Mitchell the co-ordinator at the Golden Hill Community Garden!  I’m new to websites and this is a work in progress so bear with me.  Hopefully we’ll soon have a gallery to show how we took an overgrown boggy derelict site and turned it into a lovely community garden.

Thank you

Lucy
